Dr. Valsamma Joseph received her Ph.D. in Microagal Biotechnology from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 1998 and subsequently worked as a Research Associate at National Environmental Engineering Institute, Nagpur where her work encompassed modeling of ecological systems. She joined the National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health as a Faculty in 2008 for undertaking research and teaching missions in Marine Biotechnology. She is dedicated to teaching M.Tech Marine Biotechnology programme sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Her research interests are in the areas of marine microalgal biotechnology and metagenomics. Current research initiatives in microalgal biotechnology focus on biopropsecting marine microalgal diversity for high neutral lipid producing strains and development of photobioreactors for mass production of marine microalgae. In the area of metagneomics she is studying the nitrifying bacterial community through the construction of metagenomic libraries and screening of the library by targeted phylogenetic and functional markers and fluorescent probes.

Dr. Sajeevan T.P completed his M.Sc in Marine Biology (1996-1998) and PhD (1999-2005) from Cochin University of Science and Technology. His doctoral research focused on isolation and characterisation of immunostimulants from marine microorganisms for the application in penaeid prawn culture systems. The principal immunostimulant component, β -1-3 glucan, from the marine yeast cell wall was extracted and its NMR structural characterization was done. He served as lecturer (on contract) at Dept. Marine Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry of Cochin University of Science and Technology, for two years. In 2006 he moved to Oman to work as Research Scientist at Ministry of Fisheries Wealth, Muscat, Oman. In 2009 he joined as Research Associate at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Trivandrum, to work on marine metabolites against Dengue Virus. Recently he joined with NCAAH as Assistant Professor in Marine Biotechnology. His research interests include Bioprospecting for antitumor and anti-microbial compounds from marine organisms. He is also interested in studying the immune system of fish and shellfishes. So far he has 9 publications in peer reviewed internationals journals and 5 national publications.
